Born in Chicago, Joseph S. Ladowski, MD, joined Lutheran Medical Group in January 2011 when his former group, Indiana Ohio Heart, joined LMG. Dr. Ladowski joined IOH in August 1988.
Dr. Ladowksi, who is the surgical director of transplantation at Lutheran Hospital, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago in 1976 and a medical degree from the university's Pritzker School of Medicine in 1980. He completed general and thoracic surgery residencies at the Hospitals of the University Health Center of Pittsburgh, where his training focused on heart and heart-lung transplantations.
Dr. Ladowski, who has received numerous awards from the American Medical Association, is a clinical associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He served on the board of trustees for the Fort Wayne Medical Society, on the heart transplant committee of the United Network for Organ Sharing and as a board member for the Indiana Donor Network (formerly Indiana Organ Procurement Organization (IOPO)). In addition, Dr. Ladowski, who is a founder and president of the August Tomusk Foundation, is internationally recognized for his numerous research projects, and he has published more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
Dr. Ladowski, who is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, is a diplomate of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the Mark M. Ravitch Surgical Society, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.
