Born in River Forest, Illinois, Vincent A. Scavo, M.D., is the medical director of Lutheran Health Physicians and the president-elect of the Lutheran Hospital medical staff. Dr. Scavo, who arrived in Fort Wayne in 2002, specializes in minimally invasive off-pump coronary artery bypass, esophageal and thoracic noncardiac surgeries, and complex cardiac valve reconstruction.
Dr. Scavo graduated from Purdue University in 1990, where he played varsity football and received Phi Beta Kappa honors. He was elected to membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society at Loyola University School of Medicine. He received several awards, including Surgical Resident of the Year, the dean's Surgical Socrates Award for Surgical Teaching Excellence and Surgical Chief Resident of the Year. He also received the Carl H. McCaskey Subspecialty Surgery Research Award.
Dr. Scavo serves on the Lutheran Hospital cardiovascular/cardiology committee, the critical care committee, practice managers' committee, physicians' leadership group, medical executive committee and the long-range planning committee.
