Heart & Vascular Center
The Heart & Vascular Center offers innovative treatment options for patients with complex heart or blood vessel conditions. Each specialty clinic focuses on a specific area of heart or vascular care.
Advanced Cardiac Imaging
Cardiologists with specialized training and higher-level certifications in advanced cardiovascular imaging analyze cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology scans and aid in diagnosis.
Advanced Heart Failure
As heart failure progresses, patients require a higher level of care to manage symptoms. The advanced heart failure clinic focuses on:
- Treating and managing heart failure through lifestyle modifications, medications and device therapy
- Reducing the risk of hospital readmission
- Evaluating patients with severe heart failure and determining advanced surgical therapy options, including LVAD implantation or heart transplantation
Amputation Prevention
Severe peripheral artery disease (PAD) may lead to poor circulation in the legs and feet. If this becomes critical, amputation may be needed. The amputation prevention clinic helps patients avoid limb loss resulting from PAD through:
- Evaluation of lower limb extremities for possible limb salvage
- Use of the current approaches to prevent amputation, including pedal access catheterization
Aneurysm Clinic
Patients diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm may be able to have a noninvasive repair called an endograft. Evaluations are performed in the clinic and patients who are not candidates for this procedure are referred to a surgeon for treatment.
Cardiac Device Clinic
Patients who have implanted cardiac devices (ex. pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac recorders and monitoring systems) receive ongoing support in the clinic and through remote monitoring. This clinic is located at 7916 West Jefferson Blvd.
Cardio-Oncology Clinic
Life-saving cancer therapies may affect the heart’s electrical system or the muscle itself. This can occur even a few years after cancer treatments are finished. The cardio-oncology clinic focuses on the effects of chemotherapy and radiation on the heart, detecting adverse effects and helping patients safely continue chemotherapy treatments.
Lipid Care Clinic
High cholesterol and lipid disorders increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and peripheral arterial disease. The Lipid Clinic provides individualized treatment to diagnose and address abnormalities in cholesterol, triglyceride and other lipid levels through:
- Genetic testing
- Statin therapy
- Dietary education and counseling
- Risk factor education and counseling
- Medication management
Neurointerventional Surgery
Certain conditions related to the brain, neck and spine can be diagnosed and treated using minimally-invasive imaging technology.
Stroke Prevention
Patients with newly diagnosed or long-standing AFib are evaluated and managed through:
- Cardioversion and subsequent maintenance of sinus rhythm
- Prevention of thromboembolism, including anticoagulation and left atrial appendage closure
Structural Heart and Valve
Cardiac patients with structural defects or valve disorders are evaluated for treatment in the structural heart clinic. Interventional cardiologists utilize advanced techniques to address:
- Atrial and ventricular septal defects
- Mitral regurgitation
- Left atrial appendage occlusion
- Severe aortic stenosis
Vascular Medicine
Circulatory disorders can cause many conditions requiring specialized care. Patients referred to a vascular medicine specialist may be treated for:
- Buerger’s disease
- Cerebrovascular disease
- Fibromuscular disease
- Peripheral artery disease (PAD)
- Vasculitis
These clinics are the next step for patients requiring advanced cardiac or vascular services. Once referred, treatment remains a collaborative effort between referring physicians, specialists and patients.
